Privacy Policy

Language Pairs is designed to collect only the information needed to verify eligibility, run matching, and support safe use.

What we store

We store your display name, verified email address, currently affiliated university, role, language selections, matching status, moderation state, and match history. If you choose to add a separate matching contact email, we store that too; it is used only for match introductions once you have verified it.

What we do not store

We do not store passwords, phone numbers, dates of birth, exact locations, internal messages, feeds, or a social graph.

Email sign-in links

We use email sign-in links that stay valid only for a limited time before expiring. Token hashes are stored instead of raw login tokens.

Visibility

Users are not publicly browsable. Contact details are shared only when a match has been approved. All stored details are viewable by Administrators.

Who can access this information

Language Pairs administrators can access your details when needed to verify eligibility, run matching, provide support, or handle safety concerns. After a match is approved, we send a single introduction email addressed to both partners together: this means your display name and verified email address are shared with your language partner, and theirs with you, so you can reply to one another and arrange practice directly.

Moderation

Administrative changes are recorded in an audit log so that safety decisions can be reviewed and attributed.

Data minimisation

Each field is collected for eligibility verification, reciprocal matching, account access, or safety handling.
